印象的だった言葉をピックアップしてみました。
「日本にやってきたのは、私がこれまでそうだったような同じような気持ちで働くことができると思ったからですし、厳しさと規律、人を尊敬すること、真面目さといった現代フットボール界において大事なものを兼ね備えていると思ったからです」
「いま日本はFIFAランキングで55位ですけれども、かつて私が就任した当時のアルジェリア代表は52位でした。3年間にわたって私と仕事をして、そのランクは17位になりました。私は確信しています。日本代表もそれと同じことができます。そのために私は来ました」

「（日本代表は）少し自信を失っているかもしれません。簡単なものも、難しいものもありますけれど、いくつかの点で向上させることができると思います。少し時間をください。そうすることによって、より良い結果を皆さんにお見せすることができると思います」
「私はかなり要求の高い人物だと思います。負けることは大嫌いです。かつて私が仕事をしてきたところで、負けたときは少し病気になってしまったくらいですから。私がいつも口にする一言目は、勝利です。たとえば世界一強いとされるチームと試合するときでも、勝つトライをしようと言うでしょう」
「トライをしないで負けてしまうことが最悪なことです。私がここに来ている意味としては勝利に対する気持ち、それを植え付けたいと思っています。これから3月に2試合ありますけれど、これは絶対に二つとも勝利しなければいけない。私はネガティブなことを言うのは嫌いですし、本当に彼らを復活させたいと思っています」

「もしかしたらメンバーは毎回代わってしまうかもしれません。今のところ確定している選手はいません。スタメンも決まっていません。国内にいる選手もそうですし、国外にいる選手もそうです。国内のJリーグには能力の高い若い選手がたくさんいると聞いていますから、まずしっかり観たい。できるだけたくさんの選手に可能性を与えてあげたいと思っています」
「選手の何人かは自分自身に対して自信を失っているように見えます。2、3年前はその選手のことをもっといい選手だなと思っていました。そのために勇気づけることが必要だなと思います。私の仕事も彼らに勇気を付けること、喜びを持つこと。彼らがすでにいいプレーをしているんだということを忘れないように」
選手選考はまだ当然ながら白紙でしょうね。3月の代表については技術委員会主導での選考ということになりそうな気がします。「何人か自信を失っている選手がいる」と言われてパッと思い浮かぶのは、やはり香川真司でしょうか。確かに彼の「復活」があれば、日本代表にとって大きい。新しい井戸を掘りながら、旧来のメンバーにも新たな刺激を与えていく。まずはそんなアプローチになりそうです。
会見でハリルホジッチさんは何度か「少し時間をください」と繰り返していました。これは「時間さえもらえれば、やってみせるよ」という自信の表明にも思えましたが、果たしてどうなるのか。まずは3月の2連戦。恐らく「待ち」から入るタイプではなくて、最初から果敢にパンチを打ち込んでいくタイプだと思うので、楽しみにしたいと思います。
