優勝し凱旋するU-14Jリーグ選抜

スウェーデン・ヨーテボリ市にて開催されていたゴシアカップを取材して参りました。7月9日に日本を出発して21日に帰国したので、13日間の旅ですね。決して短くはなかったですが、非常に充実した取材になったと思います。草の根の広がりと繋がりを大切にし、地域と連動しているとても素敵な大会です。
U-14Jリーグ選抜は見事に初優勝。未来のJリーガーたちにとっては、単なる競技面だけではない大きな経験を得た大会になったのではないでしょうか。「初めての国際大会」「初めての海外遠征」という選手も多くいて、最初は初々しさが先行していましたが、外国人選手たちと交流して（時に女の子を追っかけて（笑））徐々にタフになっていきました。最後はトランジットのイスタンブール空港でタフに買い物している選手たちを観て、本当に良い経験をしたのだなと確信しました。
到着した関西空港では村井チェアマンの激励を受けました。何と札幌で行われた小野伸二との対談からの“ハシゴ”だったそうです。その熱意と行動力はさすがというほかありません。リンク先の記事ではさっそく日本でのゴシアカップ相当の大会開催の可能性を示唆していますが、十分に可能性のある話だと思っています。選手だけで3万人、保護者を含めればさらに増えるであろうゴシアカップが街にもたらしている経済効果は絶大なものがあります。文化的・社会的価値だけではない、経済的な価値を包含することで、自治体・企業との連携も可能ではないでしょうか。
世界73カ国から1600チームあまりが一つの都市に集うというスケール感はさすがに一朝一夕で模倣できるものではありませんが、そこは長い目でやっていくのがいいのかな、と。何にせよ、U-14Jリーグ選抜の皆さんにはあらためて「おめでとう」と言いたいですね。この経験を今後の人生（サッカーに限らず）に生かしてもらえればと思います。
