それはそれとして、本日17時からパレスチナ戦です。普通に働いている方にとっては何とも観づらい時間設定なんだと思いますが、韓国における会場もかなり離れた場所でして、仁川市でもソウル市でもなく、華城（ファソン）スポーツコンプレックスにての開催です。昨年の東アジアカップが開催された競技場ですね。3万5千人余りを収容する陸上兼用スタジアムです。
相手はパレスチナ代表。「U-21」代表で臨んでいる日本に対して、彼らは「U-23＋オーバーエイジ」の編成。手倉森誠監督の言葉を借りれば、「組織はイラクより整っている」ということなので、油断ならない相手かもしれません。今大会は初戦で「U-21」のオマーンを破って1位抜けを果たしてきています。
パレスチナそのものについてはいまさら説明するまでもないと思いますが、イスラエルとの長い闘争を経て自治権を勝ち取った特殊な地域です。サッカー的に「独立」を認められたのは1998年から。目立った実績はありませんが、「基本的には間延びする中東のスタイルなんだけれど、状況に応じてコンパクトにも戦える」（手倉森監督）というちょっと変わったサッカーをすると日本側の警戒心は存外に強いです。
